Course Objective
The objective of CHEM 1311 is to develop the ability to predict the structures and certain properties and reactivities of the elements, and of many of their simpler ionic and covalent compounds. To achieve this predictive capability requires that students enhance their understanding of atomic structure and models of chemical bonding, including molecular orbital concepts. These concepts are directly applicable to organic and biochemistry, and also to many aspects of biology, materials science, and environmental science.
