The Barry lab generates new knowledge concerning protein-based catalysis. Research foci include the enzymes involved in oxygenic photosynthesis and DNA synthesis. This information will contribute to improvements in artificial solar energy conversion and in the treatment of disease. Students in the Barry lab develop and use a wide variety of biochemical and biophysical techniques, including spectroscopy, biomimetics, and chemical biology. The research is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative.
